With summer in full swing wearing a face mask is about to get a whole lot harder—and sweatier.
Here are a few suggestions on how to wear a face mask in the summer months.
1. Limit your time wearing a face mask
According to the CDC, masks should be worn in public areas where it’s difficult to maintain physical distance. That’s pretty much every store and restaurant and store. On a hot, humid day, make sure you really need to make the trip.
2. Choose breathable material
Whether you make your own face mask or buy one, choose a face mask that is made out of light-colored, cotton material rather than a synthetic blend.
3. Have more than one mask
A face mask should be washed after wearing it, but that’s not always possible. Masks will get sweaty and damp, so if you know you’re going to be out for an extended period bring along an extra mask. A wet mask is less effective in filtering out germs.
4. Stay out of the sun
This might be common sense, but unless you need to be outdoors for extended periods of time you should avoid direct sun—and don’t forget to hydrate!
