You might assume that regularly washing your entire body is a good idea. However, excessive showering or bathing can actually do more harm than good. According to one doctor, you really only need to wash three parts of your body with soap daily: armpits, groin, and feet. A simple rinse with water is all you need for the rest of your body.
If you scrub your entire body regularly with soap you are at risk of destroying useful bacteria that helps protect you. Your body needs certain bacteria, and when you remove it from your skin by washing with soap, it lowers your immunity to certain viruses, putting you are an increased risk of getting sick.
So why should you use soap on your underarms, groin, and feet if it is not a good idea to use it on the rest of your body? Those three areas are home to some of the most sensitive skin on your body. Additionally, they are prone to things like fungus growth, ingrown hairs and more that can lead to infections, and generally are more suspectable to the development of bad bacteria and potentially harmful infections.
